Intro to South Indian Music

This class is an introduction to Carnatic music, which comes from Southern India. We will explore the two most important facets of the Indian classical style: Raga (Melody) and Tala (Rhythm). Ragas are modal scales that provide a vocabulary for improvisation, after an introduction to a few of these scales, we will try simple improvisations, as well as how to use them within Western music training!

Suggested age: 12+

Performance will be with other students and artists on July 14th at the Geeva Arts Festival, an international Indian classical music festival
