Executive Director

Sara has served as Executive Director since 2018. She is honored to continue the incredible legacy of the Frenches and her former teacher Ruth French. As a violinist and an educator with experience in non-profits, project management, and deep ties to the Louisville community she is excited to give back to the school that shaped her.

Her work at the Academy is led by her belief that music belongs to everyone. She is passionate about honoring the traditions of LAM and classical music while inspiring innovation through new programs which foster community, encourage creativity, and build access to music education.

Sara holds a Master’s Degree in Violin Performance from UNC-Greensboro and Bachelors from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Alissa Brody

(she/her)

School Administrator

Alissa comes to LAM with experience as an arts administrator and music educator. Recent work highlights include positions on staff with the Louisville Youth Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, and the Institute for Music Leadership at the Eastman School of Music following 7 years as an instrumental music director. 

Alissa earned a Master’s degree in music theory from the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities and a Bachelor’s degree in music from Luther College, where she studied piano and flute.

Isaac Smith

Program Coordinator

Isaac Raymond Smith (b. 1998) currently resides in Louisville, Kentucky, where he works as the program coordinator for the Louisville Academy of Music, as well as being a freelance composer. In May of 2022, he received his master’s degree in music composition from the University of Louisville. In May of 2020, he graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BM in composition and theory and a minor in jazz studies. 

Isaac is passionate about breaking down barriers in music and is excited to further the mission of LAM through his position as program coordinator. 

Mae Alice Harrell

Communications Manager

Originally from Louisville, Mae Alice attended Western Middle School for the Arts and the Youth Performing Arts School before earning degrees in Voice Performance and Politics from Oberlin College and Conservatory. Alongside her position as a voice teacher on LAM’s faculty, she is thrilled to take on the role of Communications Manager and continue to promote LAM’s mission within the Louisville community.

Rashid Hong

Student Coordinator

Rashid took piano lessons at LAM from 2020-2024. He is now attending the University of Louisville for a Piano Performance degree. Rashid is excited to be a bridge between student ideas and LAM staff. He has a deep care for all art forms and their ability to inspire.
