The LAM Summer Symposium 2025
June 16- June 27
weekdays 9am - 3pm @ the Louisville Academy of Music
recommended for ages 12-18
Join us for this one of a kind musical program in a supportive learning community, open to all levels. During the 2 week program students choose between chamber music (collaborative music making) or composition (creative music making) tracks. The 3:1 faculty to student ratio provides an immersive experience prioritizing each student's growth. We build community through symposium-wide sessions. Each day begins with a movement or mindfulness activity and ends with a workshop led by a local or regional guest artist with programming in observance of Juneteenth. The Symposium is truly a blend of tradition and innovation!
Acceptance is based on capacity and our ability to form groups of similar playing level. Because we are working in such an intimate setting we prioritize the educational placement of each student in an appropriate group.
““As a parent, there are moments when you know beyond a shadow of doubt your child’s life has been changed for the better. For me, that moment was witnessing our son participate in the Louisville Academy of Music’s 2024 Summer Symposium. Beyond composing a beautiful first piece of music, I saw firsthand the positive impact the LAM instructors and staff had on Tahj over the two week experience. They not only developed his technical skills, but also planted seeds of confidence that helped our son truly develop a love of music. We couldn’t be more grateful for the Louisville Academy of Music and hope more families can experience this remarkable opportunity!””
Tuition: $675 + $40.50 sales tax (Need-based financial aid is available. Interested families should fill out the requested information as directed in the Symposium application. Questions about financial aid can be directed to Alissa Brody at info@laofm.org).

Choosing a track
Chamber students will be placed in small groups with students at a similar level. They will work collaboratively with their peers to prepare for a performance while they build essential musicianship skills with faculty members in coaching sessions and enrichment classes.
Composition students will be writing an original piece for a professional trio from LAM. They will work in a group and one-on-one to write their pieces and then workshop them with the performers. Their works will be professionally recorded at the end of the 2 weeks.

“As a parent, I highly recommend the LAM Summer Symposium for any young musician! We have been participating since their first year, and it has provided my kids amazing instruction and a supportive community of friends and teachers who share their love for music.
My kids have enjoyed spending hot summer days inside and outside of the school building climbing up the magnolia tree, running, laughing and learning music in a caring and compassionate environment that is as nurturing as it is inspiring.
The LAM Summer Symposium is such a unique summer institute that is transformative while remaining both accessible and affordable. Our community is fortunate to have such an exceptional opportunity in Louisville. ”
