GUIDELINES FOR IN PERSON LESSONS DURING LIMITED REOPENING

The safety of our students and staff remains LAM’s top priority. No one can guarantee when it is safe to resume contact, but we feel these guidelines will ensure that the lesson proceeds as safely as possible.

  • No more than four musical activities can take place at the school at any time.

  • No more than 10 people can gather at LAM, socially distanced and with appropriate PPE

  • Lessons will be assigned either to a studio (downstairs green, upstairs blue, upstairs double, recital hall) or take place outside or on the porch. An individual bathroom will be assigned to each studio or outdoor activity. A companion studio will be assigned if a teacher is at LAM for more than one lesson. They will be able to move between studios to offer in person and online lessons and air out the studio appropriately.

  • Teachers must complete an online training course with LAM staff if they are to be scheduling regular lessons in person each month. They are responsible for sending all covid documents to their in person students, checking in themselves and their in person students, updating the log within each studio, and monitoring the bathroom usage and cleaning.

  • Surfaces touched in the studio (doorknobs, keyboards, chairs or stools) must be wiped down before and after every lesson.

  • Each studio has an associated bathroom. Teachers and students are responsible for wiping down the surfaces if the bathroom is used during the lesson.

  • All teachers and students will wear masks and maintain a physical separation of at least six feet during the lesson. If part of the in person lesson requires hands on instruction for pedagogical purposes the teacher and student must sanitize or wash their hands before and after contact.

  • Wind, Brass, and Vocal lessons are only allowed in the Recital Hall, Porch, or Outdoors. A physical distance of 15 feet is required in the recital hall and porch and 6-15 feet is recommended outdoors. Lessons of no more than 30 minutes in the recital hall and 60 minutes on the porch. Outdoor lessons are recommended at no more than 60 minutes. Instrument bells and vocal projection should not be directed towards others.

  • Teachers are responsible for airing out the room for 30 minutes in between piano and string lessons and 60 minutes in between winds, brass, and voice lessons. This includes leaving the door open, opening a window, leaving the air conditioner running, and turning on a fan to create flow through the room toward the window when applicable. If teaching on the porch air out time is 30 minutes for winds, brass, and voice and none for strings.

  • All teachers and students will be checked in outdoors or in the lobby by entering through the porch or front door with the ramp if there is a lesson on the porch. Please arrive 5 minutes before the lesson to complete check in. Everyone entering the school will have their temperature checked and will be asked a series of questions about their recent health and possible exposure to COVID. If you answer “yes” to any of these questions or your temperature is above 99.0º, we cannot allow you to proceed with a lesson. Teachers can check in themselves and their student as they are comfortable.

  • For winds, brass, and voice, masks are required to be worn at all times other than playing the instrument/singing. Masks are recommended during outdoor lessons.

  • No one is allowed in any area other than the porch, their assigned studio with its bathroom, or outdoors. The lobby, library, and office are closed and no one may enter those areas. Parents should wait in the parking lot or outdoors during the lesson. If a child is 10 years or younger one parent or guardian are allowed to attend the lesson

  • A waiver must be signed by both the parent/guardian and the teacher before an in-person lesson is conducted.
