Mae Alice Harrell (she/her)


Voice

Soprano Mae Alice Harrell is a Louisville native. She attended Western Middle School for the Arts and the Youth Performing Arts School before earning degrees in Voice Performance and Politics from Oberlin College and Conservatory. She continues to study voice with her teacher, Dr. Katherine Jolly. 

During her time at Oberlin, Mae Alice originated the role of Alice 1 in the world premiere of Melissa Dunphy’s opera "Alice Tierney." Her professional debut came in 2023 with Opera Columbus, reprising the same role. She portrayed Lucy in Menotti’s "The Telephone" and took on the dual roles of La Musica/Euridice in Monteverdi’s "L’Orfeo" in 2024 with Oberlin Opera Theater.

Mae Alice's international experience includes portraying Barbarina in "Die Hochzeit des Figaro" in Middlebury, Vermont and Scharbeutz, Germany, as part of Middlebury Language School’s German for Singers Program. Her commitment to a wide breadth of music, spanning early and contemporary genres, has led her to participate as a Young Artist with Songfest and in Tafelmusik’s Baroque Summer Institute. 

Mae Alice currently holds a staff singer position at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Louisville and will appear in the chorus of the Kentucky Opera’s productions of Madama Butterfly and This Little Light of Mine in the 24-25 season.

Beyond performing, Mae Alice finds joy in teaching and exploring diverse musical styles. She also plays piano, guitar and mandolin. She is passionate about utilizing her skills as a musician to foster self-acceptance and build community.
